At Aboyne Lodge, children learn phonics throughout Early Years and Key Stage 1. It is taught daily, in short sessions so that children build up and practise the skills they need to use in reading and writing.
We follow the government published programme “Letters and Sounds” using a range of resources which support us in providing a multi-sensory approach to learning phonics.

UPDATE – November 2020
Year 1 children usually take the phonics screening check in early June. However, due to school closures the check did not take place this year. Instead, schools are required to use a past version of the check with Year 2 pupils in November or December 2020.
