DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY

Design and Technology education comprises of two central elements – learning about  how things are designed within our world and their workings, and learning to design and make products that function for specific purposes and users. At Aboyne, we aim for our children to acquire and apply knowledge and understanding of materials and components, mechanisms and control systems, structures, existing products, quality and health and safety as well as garner an understanding of food.

Using Design and Technology supports the teaching of both Maths and English and many other curriculum subjects in a fun manner allowing us put these subjects into context making them easier to digest and more understandable to our pupils.

We believe that D&T gives children the opportunity to not only to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of designing, but more importantly enable the children to make functional products. D&T gives us the vital opportunity to develop children’s creativity and innovation through design. It also allows them to explore the designed and made world in which we all live and work.

We follow the National Curriculum, which includes Design and Technology as a compulsory subject at Key Stages 1 and 2, with statutory Programmes of Study.
